May 31st 2012 - An estimated 10 yrs old Winzor had decaying gums and plaque built up on his permanent teeth so thick you could not see the enamel. As with the rest of his friends he was in shock, seeming a little dazed by the new environment around him. He stood a short 44.5 inches tall and the needle barely passed the big red 30 lbs mark on the scale. With no family history we will never know if his small size was due in part to genetics or yrs of malnutrition and neglect were solely responsible. He had a sense of urgency and unsureness at first, needing to push to be first in line, wanting to make sure he was seen and heard during bath time, meal time, structured play, fearful he would be left out or forgotten.
1 yr later – Winzor LOVES school, he loves to be a part of something structured (at times still pushing to be first but this has become much less frequent), and asks for school even on weekends. He is proud to declare he has finished an assignment and feels accomplished turning back in his homework, though he struggles with a learning disability. He’s a strong leader, or thinks he is though no one seems to pay much mind to following his instruction. Winzor is very observant and social. He throws himself into whatever activity or conversation is taking place in the world around him. Winzor longs for a place to belong, still knowing this is only his temporary home, but both physically and emotionally he has come the farthest of all the kids that arrived from the orphanage in Kenscoff that day. A testimony to God’s incredible healing power. This little boy has transformed in our midst and we take a moment today to give thanks for God’s goodness and the privilege that it has been to be a part of his story. In Winzor’s strong bond to us, his affectionate nature, inquisitive mind, helpful hands, and healthy ever growing solid frame, we see a boy of immeasurable courage, embracing this life, brave enough for every challenge, confident enough to win. Winzor has almost doubled in weight, gaining 25 lbs over the last 12 months, and growing a full 7 inches taller, finally filling out his 4T clothing!
The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
