As we have moved past the anniversary of the most devastating day in the history of Haiti, the renewed interest in Haiti has also renewed the questions about adoptions. There have been so many people who have inquired about adopting the orphans in Haiti that it has truly been overwhelming.
In an effort to accurately communicate the status of adoptions, I wanted to get in touch with you and let you know where things stand. There are currently 4 major qualifications that are required to “pass” the initial look at whether a family can adopt from Haiti:
• All prospective adoptive parents must be at least 35 years of age. If a couple, then at least one must be 35 years of age.
• If married, you must have been married for 10 years or more. There might be flexibility with this for cases of documented infertility.
• Can currently have no more than 2 biological children at home.
• Must be a Christian.
If you meet those requirements or feel that you come close to meeting those requirements and would like to take things to the next step, please complete the attached form (the link is at the bottom of this page) and mail it to Jean Bell at our Colorado office. She will then get you the complete application if she feels that your “information” is something that would work with the current guidelines for adoption.
Please note, this is not an indication that we have children waiting for immediate referrals or that if you do qualify to adopt from Haiti that you’ll get a referral in any particular time frame. Anyone who knows Haiti knows that there are no guarantees when it comes to anything relating to Haiti.
But we know that there are kids in Haiti who are orphans and that if it’s God’s will that an orphan from Haiti becomes part of your family, it will happen in HIS time, not necessarily our time.
If you have questions, please let me know and on behalf of the kids in Haiti, thank you for your support,
