An Update on building at Fort Jacques

I wanted to show you how much work has been done on the staff house at Fort Jacques.  We have had some great work teams in the last few months and the work on this 965 square foot house has gone quickly.  The house has an open living/kitchen area with a small office at the end of the living area.  There is a cathedral ceiling in the living room/kitchen area.  There are two nice size bedrooms and one bath with a shower.  I think it will make a small family or a couple of volunteers a nice home.

The house is almost finished.  We have a team coming on Monday who will paint the inside and Patrick is working to finish the plumbing even though he knows very little about how to do plumbing!  But sometimes, we have do things we do not know much about when we live and work in Haiti!  Just like me working on the computers in our office!  If it was not for Google, I would NEVER figure things out!  Confused smile

The ceramic tile was laid in the house this week.  It really looks like a home more and more each week!  Finishing the doors, bathroom, and kitchen cabinets are for next week.  Can’t wait to see how much  is accomplished by next Friday!

No, these are not two different houses!  This is the same house on a sunny day and on a rainy, cloudy day!  This is the strangest paint color that changes color with the weather!

Rock wall and driveway next to the house. Will eventually lead to the chapel. Then, this is what you will see walking in front door to Living room. Kitchen to left.  Bedroom doors seen straight ahead.

Rock Wall in Living Room. Bedrooms straight ahead.   Walking in front door, kitchen is to the left.  You can just see the bathroom door behind the kitchen (to the right side of photo)

The second bedroom is long and narrow but still big enough for a regular size bed.  The beautiful rock wall from the living room continues into this room.  There will be a nice closet on the wall as you walk into this room.

The master bedroom is larger with two big closets.  A queen size bed will fit nicely in this room.  There is a door from this bedroom into the bathroom which will be nice for the family living in this house.  This room has been given a couple of coats of white paint already.  The Wood paneling for the walls or B-Board is an unfinished wood that just drinks up the paint and requires several coats but it looks really nice.

Photo on left is the bathroom. You are looking at the shower and next to it is a small linen closet.  The tile in the bathroom is beautiful.  It has a small flower design in some of the tiles that reflect in the light.  The photo on the right is looking at the front door.  To the right is the kitchen and a small eating area.  The kitchen and living room have a cathedral ceiling that helps lighten  up the small space and makes it seem bigger.

Looking from the living room into the kitchen.  They still need to put the upper cabinets in the kitchen and counter tops on the cabinets.  We’ll wait until the walls are painted before putting them in place.  You can see a door in the kitchen that will lead out onto a small balcony where we can put a small table for eating and relaxation.  Another view of the cathedral ceiling.  It is not quite finished yet but another day of working on it should see it finished.

What beautiful workmanship. I know this building will be a blessing and that open space used for many a fun and glorying interaction.

I can't believe how far this house has come in just a month! I was there when Lissa wired it and I helped with the driveway. Great work!
