Change the world with food - seems pretty obvious, doesn't it? Kids are malnourished, you buy them food and it's all set right?
Not so simple. A couple of things that factor into it......
Cost of living - there are certain types of food that are significantly more expensive in Haiti than they are here.
But at the same time, we want to buy as much food as possible to feed our kids in Haiti from people in Haiti. Keep the money there, generate and support jobs in Haiti whenever possible.
It's a balancing act and one that changes based on supply, prices and more.
There is one thing that we know we can't get enough of in Haiti on a regular basis - that is specialty formula.
By specialty formula, I'm referring to the high calorie, soy, high protein formula that is designed especially for the really small and really fragile kids. That formula is very hard to get in Haiti and very expensive.
So we're going to be doing some "things" during 2014 that will generate a number of opportunities to help us collect and ship the formula that we can't get down in Haiti.
It's going to be a busy year and it's going to be a year where we can look back at the end of the year and say, "We really did make a difference and change the world of the children at GLA."
Thank you for coming along with us and helping us make a difference,
