Our Relationship With Family Christian Stores began with a baby boy...

Our relationship with Family Christian Stores (formerly known as the James Fund) Beniciostarted with a baby boy, named B. who needed a family. He was the cutest baby in our nursery! One of my favorite photos of all time is one of him peaking over the top of his bed just as the photo was taken. That photo stayed on our website until just last week.

Back in 2009, we received a dossier for a family wanting to adopt a baby. I never like to know what the husband and wife do for a living. I do not want to be influenced by those things when praying over the dossier and the children. They can be a doctor, a lawyer, or a movie star, and I would still want the child proposed to them to be the one GOD wanted them to have in their family - not me.

So when I proposed B. to his prospective parents – Kevin and Catherine Downes - I did not know that Kevin was an actor, writer producer, and director! He and his older brother, Bobby, make mainly faith-based Christian films through Downes Brother Entertainment. They were working on producing a movie at the time called Like Dandelion Dust, which was based on a book written by Karen Kingsbury about adoption and Haiti. Their movie was sold at Family Christian Stores and GLA was fortunate to have received an amount of the proceeds from that movie.

Then on the 12th of January 2010, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti. A few days later, B. was evacuated to Miami where his new mother and father were waiting for him with open arms!

Ever since, we have had a growing and rewarding relationship with the Downes’ and Family Christian Stores through Kevin’s connections with them. The company started bringing teams of volunteers to Haiti to help out at the mission and have become regular visitors. What a blessing they have been to God's Littlest Angels!

They have built houses, cleaned, hugged children, and picked up trash, and way too many other activities to write about them here! They come to Haiti with open hearts and willing hands. They have supported us in difficult times and been an organization that gives with a generosity that has brought me to tears quite a few times!

Family Christian Stores' Foundation, The James Fund, is a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of orphans and widows around the world. God's direction and purpose for this mission is defined in scripture: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..." James 1:27 (NIV)
