Marie Kencia initially came to us in October of 2013, fragile and tiny. Her parents were struggling to feed her properly and adequately, due to her cleft lip and palate. Our nurses began caring for her, helping her to eat, and gain weight. It didn’t take long for her little firecracker personality to begin to shine, and she captured the hearts of many people coming and going from our gates here at GLA. We received word that a surgical volunteer team would be coming to Haiti, and we also found out that they had a lot of experience performing successful cleft lip and palate surgeries. What an answer to prayer!
We were able to get Marie Kencia on the list for an evaluation, and thanks to the volunteer LEAP team, Marie Kencia was able to have the first of two surgeries in May of 2014. They did a phenomenal job repairing her cleft lip, and she stayed at GLA through her recovery. When coming to take her home in August, her mama was asked to bring Kencia back in November for her final surgery preparations. She was given detailed instructions on how to continue caring for her and was looking forward to her next surgery.
The LEAP team repaired her cleft palate at the beginning of November, and again, she remained with us through her recovery period. Marie Kencia was such a trooper through her recoveries, not allowing anything to stop her joyful smile from being seen constantly. The results are incredible! God is so faithful, and her parents were so happy to see her, and take her home yesterday! Please join us in continuing to pray for her to be healthy, strong, and to grow to know our Lord
