Kenscoff orphanages benefit from donations…
There is a new orphanage in Kenscoff called “Coeur de Compassion” (Heart of compassion). The children in this orphanage are earthquake orphans mainly. Some of the children were abandoned after the earthquake and no one knows where the parents went! These children were staying in the community of Fond Parisian. This community is located close to the Dominican border outside of Port-au-Prince.
A pastor in the Fond Parisian community sent the children to the mayor of Kenscoff who then opened an orphanage. The children are living outside in tents and have nothing! I still do not understand how a situation like this is better for these children than in a well organized orphanage like GLA! We have food, beds, school programs, clothing, toys, and care givers to watch over the children!
We also sent some donations to the orphanage that we used to support in Kenscoff. We stopped supporting them because of mismanagement by their director, but wanted their children to benefit from these donations and so sent clothing and toys.
When we went to the orphanage after the items were delivered, the donations were being sorted and put away by the staff. You can see the bags of donations in the hallway and then the woman going through them in the living room of the house.
This week was also our monthly food distribution to 30 families known to GLA to be in need of help. This month they also received donated items of clothing, shoes, and linens! The families were so happy to have received the extra items this month!
An adoptive family in Belgium raised $6000 USD to be used to help the families. Together, we chose to have a food program for 30 families which has helped these families so much in the last six months. This program will finish in September. We are praying that maybe a group of donors will step in with $6000 to continue this program for another 6 months!
