In the United States, today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day - in honor of a man who made a huge difference in the battle for civil rights in the United States.
Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK for short) is probably best known for his "I have a Dream" speech. If you want to watch it, it's below.
There are two other quotes of his I want to share with you today as I believe they really apply to the cause of caring for vulnerable and poverty stricken children everywhere.
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." MLK Jr.
There are many injustices in the world and the point he is making is that if we don't speak up and we don't fight for the things that matter, we are dying inside.
"To ignore evil is to become an accomplice to it." MLK Jr.
Our staff in Haiti can not walk alone. They can not provide the care that the children in Haiti need if those of us who are outside of Haiti are silent and don't work toward that end.
Our staff in Haiti can not fight evil in Haiti alone. Yes, I believe that much of what they fight every day, the illness, the poverty, the malnutrition, the unplanned pregnancies due to sexual violence, these are all evils. These are evils that we all much fight against.
If we don't fight against evil wherever we see it, then we become accomplices to it.
Will you join us in fighting evil and stand up for things that matter?
We can't do it without you,
