NICU update for Baby M and Baby BT

We are sad to tell you that Baby M lost the Battle after Fighting 9 days to Live

Baby M and her twin sister came to us from Cazale and the Real Hope for Haiti Mission.  They were born premature at approximately 28 weeks gestation.  They were tiny at 1 pound 15 ounces each. One of the babies did not last long after they arrived at GLA.  We did everything that we knew to do for her but she was already not breathing on her own when she arrived.

But Baby M was doing well.  She was breathing on her own and keeping her oxygen levels quite high with just a small amount of oxygen supplement!  Then a couple of days before she passed away, her oxygen level would drop for no reason and then we started seeing her forgetting to breath at times.  Then her oxygen levels came back up to normal but her heart rate started going down.

She was just so tiny and so premature.  She just didn't have enough energy and strength and slowly faded away.  We are all sad and ask that you keep her family in your prayers.  Mom and Dad were both here when she died.

Baby BT Improved Greatly!

Baby BT came to us with a high fever, difficulty breathing, seizures, and our pediatrician did not think he would live.  It has taken days to get him better but he is awake, alert, and smiling!  He still is getting IV antibiotics and requires oxygen but we hope he can come off the IV tomorrow and then we can take him for a chest Xray to see what is going on with his little lungs!  This baby boy is 15 months old but only weighed 7 pounds.  Today, he has the eyes of an older baby and it's good to see him taking an interest in his surroundings!  We hope he can return to the orphanage where he lives in a few more days once he is off oxygen completely.
