Exilia came to work at GLA in May of 2000. She first worked as a nanny in the nursery and later switched to cleaning the house and helping in the kitchen. She is just a simple uneducated woman but has a big spirit and has supported her family for many years.
Exilia is a widow. Those of you who have followed GLA for several years might remember when Exilia’s husband died from throat cancer. Since then, she has worked to support all of her children. Thankfully, several of the children are now grown and work. Her daughter, Vivianne, has lived and worked at GLA since she was 17 years old. We put Vivianne through school and now she is one of my key persons at GLA. I say she is my “right hand” and when she is not here, everyone really misses her because she does so much!
Over the years, Exilia has developed diabetes. So when she started having headaches a cople of weeks ago with high blood pressure, she was treated with medication. Her blood pressure is better although not normal, but the headaches continue.
On the 1st of July, I had Magaly take Exilia for a CT Scan of her head. None of us like to think anything might be wrong, but we want to make sure. Then on Thursday, the staff told me that Exilia was unable to get out of bed very easily because her head hurt and she could not eat. I sent her some tylenol with codeine for the pain and had her come to the orphanage Friday morning for me to draw extensive lab work.
Exilia needs your prayers. Pray that her headaches will get better. Pray for her family too as they care for her. I am thankful that school is finished for the year so that her younger children are home to help her. We pray that she gets to feeling better soon.
