In the days and weeks following her arrival at GLA, little Shamira demonstrated anxiety and
uncertainty in apparent ways. She was untrusting and fearful around adults, and clung to Docilia often, who was the only familiar thing in her world at that point. Her emotional trauma was the most obvious of the initial three that came to the Main House.
After a few months of consistent food, care and faces Shamira began to build
trust with her nannies and volunteers. She became secure in her surroundings with a few bumps along the way. On a occasion she was reluctant to leave the nursery with a new volunteer, or would cry in unfamiliar areas of the
house, sitting in the living room for example. But slowly gained confidence over the months.
Since her arrival, Shamira has put on 11 pounds and grew 6 inches. We are unsure of her age. We were told she was 8 months old
upon arrival, which we are fairly sure was inaccurate. We speculate her to be around 3 years old.
Today the fear is completely gone. She walks around the nursery with authority, her confidence through the roof! She is always smiling, curious and interactive. Her transformation is something to
