Sonia and Sophie

Sonia - 2 November 2010-3Sonia was able to come off oxygenSonia - 26 October 2010-1 today!  This is wonderful news!  It will make it so much easier for her to go to the cardiologist for her echocardiogram.  We will just take portable oxygen for backup.  She may breath better when she’s down lower in altitude.  Sonia does have Downs Syndrome.  I pray that she stays off oxygen and that her heart murmur does not indicate too serious of a heart condition.

Sonia has been a very sick little girl.  Thankfully, she is on the road to recovery and we can soon find out what her heart problem is.  Sonia is for adoption.

Sophie - 26 October 2010-1Sophie was brought by her parents to GLA.  She was very sick and could not breath well on her own.  She has a large heart murmur and needed advanced breathing support to live.  The hospital where she was born was not prepared to care for her and could not offer the oxygen support that she needed.  Her mother is staying at the orphanage and is giving us breast milk to give to Sophie with a feeding tube.  Susan has tried to wean her off CPAP and lower her oxygen consumption without success.  She just cannot tolerate breathing without support.  We will take her down for the echocardiogram with portable oxygen and pray that she comes through it ok.  Keep praying for her, please.

Hi Dixie, I know you are very busy, but can I ask a question? Does Haiti ever make special "rules" not as specific for children who have special needs like Sonia? Do they ever speed things up for a special needs child? My husband and I are not thirty and have 2 bio children, but may be interested in Sonia. Would Haiti ever allow it? Unless you have a family already in mind for her? Thank you, Jill - Canada

Oh...we will keep these precious little girls in our prayers!! Our 3 year old just had heart surgery last week. She has had seizures since she was 18 months old. They wanted to treat her for epilepsy, but I really felt something else was the cause. We discovered that she was having trouble keeping her oxygen levels up while we were in Glacier this summer. We took her in to a cardiologist and, sure enough, ASD (2 holes in her heart). Every doctor missed it! PTL, she is doing GREAT!!! My heart breaks for these girls!! We will be praying!!!
