Good news to report: Illionson is doing great! He is such a tough little guy! He had his cleft palate repair done on Saturday April 26, and is almost a week post-op now. He is eating and drinking well, and the nannies feed him with a syringe, cup or spoon. We just have to be careful not to touch the roof of his mouth while it is healing. The nurses and nannies do a great job with him.
I was very impressed with the LEAP team that did Illionson's surgery. They are a wonderful group of people from Texas that come to Haiti twice a year. They took such good care of us all weekend. One of the Haitian nurses, Irlande, and I (Audrey) spent Saturday night at the hospital in Petionville with Illionson. He was up and down all night; the first night after these surgeries are often rough due to pain and difficulty swallowing and breathing. Illionson was a trooper, and slept pretty well as long one of us was holding him. On a side note, Irlande and I enjoyed a special blessing of a private room with a bed, so we actually got a little sleep too!
This is Illionson with his plastic surgeon. Illionson with Irlande.
Happy Guy! New mouth, same sweet smile! Look what I can do!
Illionson will stay with us for at least another week until he is fully recovered and has no eating restrictions. Then the plan is for him to return to his parents. Pray that he continues to grow and develop to his full potential.
We also had 2 of our older boys scheduled for surgery to have ear tubes put in on Sunday. They also received great care from the LEAP team members.
Mario and Peterson waiting patiently.
Surgery went well for both of these guys. They were so brave! Pray that their ears continue to heal with no permanent hearing damage.
Wiped out after a long day! Peterson loved the toy owl they gave him!
We are thankful to God for protection and healing for these precious boys. Also to the LEAP team for the great service and caring attitude you give to our children in Haiti!
