I want to thank everyone that prayed, called their senators and congressmen, talked to other NGO’s working in Haiti and in anyway tried to help Jerrensia get her visa! I did not think the US Consulate would allow us to go back with her without us reapplying just because that would be admitting that they had denied her for no valid reason!
When Magaly Francois, my Haitian director, went last Monday to the Consulate, they indicated to her that the visa would be issued if I went to the Consulate, the mother went to the Consulate, and if I brought a letter from our pediatrician saying she needed treatment not available in Haiti. Magaly and I had forgotten to include that letter in her packet on Monday.
So on Friday when I went down with Jerrensia, I took the letter but the mother had not arrived yet. I told the officer that she had not shown up at the orphanage before I left at 5:30 AM but she could be on her way. They will not allow us to take phones into the Consulate, so I had no way of calling to find out if she was on her way. The Embassy allows cell phones but not the Consulate.
Like I said before, the officer was young and new. Thankfully, all of you calling your senators and congressman worked! We were informed that they will give Jerrensia the visa if we return with her to the US Consulate with her mother and the letter from the pediatrician that they already received last week!
I do not care what they tell people about not having the letter because it was there in ENGLISH in fact! I only care that they reversed their decision and Jerrensia has another chance to get the treatment she needs!
Again, a big THANK YOU to ALL of you! You made a difference in Jerrensia’s life!!!!!!!
