Tiny Mirlanka Needs Emergency Surgery!
Mirlanka is one of our preemie twins who came to us a couple of months ago. She and her twin sister have done well. They have grown and we had hoped to send them home with mama and papa soon. Mama and papa are very young but have been very attentive to the twins and care for them wonderfully. Mama has stayed with the twins since they were admitted to our NICU.
A few weeks ago, Mirlanka started turning yellow. Our pediatrician ordered extensive lab work on her and a sonogram of her liver. The sonogram showed that the tube in her liver that delivers bile out of her liver has not developed normally. She needs emergency surgery.
We rushed her to a hospital in Port-au-Prince but the pediatric surgeon who works there said her chances of surviving the surgery and illness are low. The only chance she has is a team of American surgeons who are coming to Haiti next week. But the family has no money to pay for Mirlanka's surgery, and GLA's medical fund is depleted! We have had lots of medical costs in the last few months.
Please help us replenish our medical fund so that we can help the family with the costs of Mirlanka's surgery. We try to keep money in the medical fund for vaccinations, lab work, X-Rays, doctor's visits, medications, and other medically related purchases, but it has all been used.
Can you make a donation to help little Mirlanka have her surgery? This is urgent! We also need you to pray for Mirlanka and her family as they deal with this serious situation.
Please give today!
