Twins arrive a 7:30 PM
Jasmin and Jeremy are the names of the twins born on Thursday morning in Fond Parisien. Michelle and Sheila, who were volunteers last November at GLA, are working at International Faith Missions and these twins were brought to their mission house.
The mother’s family brought them because the mother is mentally incapacitated and can not care for the babies. The story that the cousin gave was that the mother went insane two years ago and nobody knows the reason. Her husband abandoned her after she started having difficulties and these are not his children.
The mother is only 30 years old. I have talked before in my blogs about the number of young Haitian girls and woman who start having mental issues either when they get pregnant or if there is other extreme stress in their lives. I have always been fascinated by the number of young girls this seems to affect without any true known reason!
The twins are beautiful! They are not drinking from a bottle very well yet, but they will. They were never breastfed, so it is just getting them to take a nipple. They are taking 20 to 30 ml at a time which is not a lot. The little girl weighed 5 pounds 15 1/2 ounces and the little boy weighed 6 pounds. Jasmin looks a lot smaller than Jeremy because he has a bigger head and round face but she is not.
Please say a special little prayer for Jasmin and Jeremy and for their mama.
