Update on some of the children and Medical Help needed for one.

IMG_1558We recently found out that one of our babies, Frantina, has SONY DSCtumor on her cervical spine.  Her development went from sitting up and standing with help to not being able to sit up at all.  She is weak. We did not know that Haiti now has an MRI Imaging Center, but once we found out, we took her to get an MRI and it showed the tumor just between her shoulder blades at the bottom of her neck.

She has seen several doctors and also had multiple tests since she started having problems.  We have checked her abdomen and lungs to see if this tumor originated somewhere else, but those areas were normal.  I need to get her out of Haiti for treatment quickly.  We found her father to come and go to Immigration to get her passport quickly.  Now, I need to find a doctor and hospital who will treat her.  She needs this tumor removed before it paralyses her.  I may try sending her to the Dominican for treatment if I can find a resource there who can help just because it would be quicker. We need some funds to send her over and see a doctor. This is urgent!   Please can anyone help her?

IMG_1565Alaine is doing so well!  After her seizures and multiple blood transfusions, I was so afraid that she would have some developmental issues and when she first started waking up, she was reacting slowly.  But now, she is smiling, and doing age appropriate things.  God protected her.  I am so thankful, because she could easily have been severely affected by her illness.  I so want to send this baby back to her mother as a healthy and happy child!  Her mother has already lost 17 babies.  We are doing our best to make sure that she survives to be IMG_1536reunited with her mother!

Louna is doing great!  She is just the most perfect little baby.  If I was 20 years younger, I would adopt her myself!  Flirt male   Her mother has not returned since I sent her home at Christmas time.  I hope when she does that she will act more mature and take care of her beautiful baby girl like she needs to so that Louna can develop into a beautiful child.

IMG_7047_thumb1Sebastian finally got all of the pins and wires out of his feet and legs!  They put casts on his feet!  He has to have them on for some time before he can start physical therapy to learn to walk again, but slowly we are reaching a point where he will be walking and running like all of the other kids at the Toddler House.  Sebastian needs a family.   We are praying that God will speak to a family's heart about Sebastian and he will find a forever family soon.  Read Molly’s Blog about Sebastian at A Child’s Dream takes shape…

Hey Dixie... Just spoke to somebody at St Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee about Frantina. They offer care to any child who needs it but it has to be based on a doctor's referral. The direct phone number for that is 1-888-226-4343. Let me know if I can help further with this!! Praying for Frantina and for you and for those God is going to have treat her!! XOXOX

Dixie, I am an adult spine surgeon in Louisiana, I would agree with the above post. I would call St. Jude in Memphis and see what they say. If they can't help Frantina, email me and I will try to help you find a place to bring her. Also, if you want me to look at her MRI for you, just email them to me. As you well know, time is of the essence when it comes to spinal cord compression.

Praying that all these precious children would find a forever family soon...that God would literally tap people on the head and heart and speak to them so clearly that they can not do anything but obey...I know there is a forever family out there for each and every child at GLA.

Dixie, I personally held & played with Fratina when I was there in Oct. with Sue Prullage's team from IL. I was so concerned about her neck & she's had a spot in my heart ever since. I will share Frantina's story & picture with some of our church family and keep her in prayer. Please keep us updated & if you haven't raised funds for transport, let me know. Possibly we could raise some funds through donations. God bless you for your calling in life. Brenda

Dixie Could you please share the name and location of the Haiti MRI center? My friend's son is in need of a MRI and we have been unable to find out any information on the center you used. She is traveling to Haiti on February 14th and would love to try to set up an appointment prior to traveling. Thank you in advance! Laura

Hey Laura There is a good chance that Dixie isnt going to see your question with all the traveling she is doing with Frantina ...your best bet in getting a quicker answer is to call the US office (number on GLA's main website and ask for Kate (Dixie's Daughter). She is able to get a hold of Dixie quicker to have your question answered. Thanks Loving God, Loving Haiti , Loving GLA! KD
