Usually once we give our papers to IBESR, it takes IBESR quite some time to come to the orphanage to do their inspection. I was afraid they would come toward the end of the month and I need to travel to the States from 26th of October through the 11th of November. But thankfully, IBESR is very organized this year and showed up unannounced today for the surprise inspection!
There were about 7 people, I never did count them all. Some interviewed our staff, one took information from Miss Magaly and me. A couple went up to the nursery and looked at the children, counted beds, checked the pharmacy and depot for expired baby formula and meds (thanks again Cheryl, Caitlin, and Steph for coming and helping to get everything in order!!!). Forty-five minutes and they were done and ready to go to the Toddler House. This is the first year that they have inspected the Toddler House and so they didn’t know what to expect.
They went to the Toddler House and again, inspected the rooms, kitchen area, classrooms, talked to the older children, and said they were very happy with the way the kids looked and how everything was set up.
We know GLA is organized and the children well taken care of, but there is always room for improvement no matter how good things are. It’s nice to know that IBESR staff also thinks things are done well at GLA!
