Why I Won't Be Giving Up Facebook for Lent

My Facebook feed has been full of people who are saying, "See you after Easter" because they are giving up Facebook for Lent.   Apparently they feel that cutting off communication with some of their friends will help them feel closer to God during the preparations for Good Friday and Easter.  I don't necessarily agree.

I won't be giving up Facebook for Lent.   Let me give you several reasons why......

Because if I did, I would have missed the opportunity to talk with Anna about the 48 boxes of diapers that she and her church sent to my office.    Did I mention that she and her two friends who organized it are 14?   Did I mention that the UPS guy was kind of confused as to why we were getting that many diapers?

Because if I did, I would have missed the opportunity to talk to Mackenzie about the choir concert her school is having on Tuesday and how they are showing a GLA video while performing "We are the World" and hope to collect donations to help us fill the container with diapers to send down to GLA.

Because if I did, I would have missed the opportunity to talk to Kim and coordinate the details for a fundraiser her school is doing to help GLA - oh and did I mention they are talking about a LOT of diapers and formula?

Because if I did, I would have missed out on the opportunity to coordinate a "diaper drive" at a local Christian school.   Monday, I'll be picking up over 5,000 diapers from them - and they split the diapers between GLA and a local women's shelter - so the total was over 10,000 diapers.   I'll post pictures of that Monday or Tuesday.

I could go on and on and on about the people who have been a source of encouragement to me, the lives that have been impacted, but I think you get the picture.

Oh and all of these reasons - happened in the last 36 hours.

I won't be giving up Facebook for Lent - because the kids at GLA need us to use Facebook to fight for their good.

I will share some ideas that I'm working on instead of giving up Facebook - but that will come next week.

Don't give up Facebook - instead ask yourself, how can I use Facebook for good?

P.S. If we're not already friends on Facebook, why not?

What a positive alternate view. I'm sure our FB abstaining friends think they are wasting too much time on FB. I truly appreciate your view to use it for good.
