Work on Toddler Houses at Fort Jacques since I have been gone…
I am back in Haiti. It feels good to be home and the last two days has been busy just trying to catch up on what has happened since I’ve been gone! I always have terrible jet lag coming back to Haiti. So yesterday afternoon, I spent napping and just trying to get back on the Haitian time zone! I had such a headache yesterday from the difference in humidity and barometric pressure here. Thankfully, it is better today. The temperature is really cool right now. At 4 AM when I woke up, the floor was freezing in our bathroom! For a minute, I wished I had my fuzzy slippers from Colorado to put on!
I was really surprised at the work that was done on the Toddler Houses while I was gone. Teams have got the beautiful green roof on the first Toddler House. We decided to make things colorful and go with different roof colors for the different areas. The barn is blue, the staff house is red, and now the toddler houses are green! They show up really well on Google Earth!
I am getting ready to go up to Fort Jacques in a few minutes to check it all out for myself. John, Patrick, and Brandon are cooking a barbeque for our Haitian workers who have worked so hard this year building houses, foundations, and retaining walls on the property. They will be taking the rest of the year off and will restart again in January. Hopefully, we will have more funds for building by then so we continue to put up Toddler Houses!
Patrick told me that they also have a team of Haitians who are milling our lumber from the pine trees that have had to be cut down. The lumber than has to dry for a long time before it is ready for use.
Here are some photos that Patrick shared with me last night:
