God’s Littlest Angels

20th Anniversary of God's Littlest Angels in Haiti!

John and I started GLA on Christmas Day 1994.  That was 20 years ago!  Time has gone by so fast.  We have lived in Haiti 23 1/2 years.  When we came to Haiti, John and I had made a commitment to stay for 3 years, but Haiti is our home now and in our hearts.  I don’t know if I can ever leave!

We were living and working at the Baptist Haiti Mission in 1994 and early on Christmas morning a premature baby was born at the mission hospital.  It was a baby girl and she weighed only 1 pound and 15 ounces.  She was so tiny!   She was only 16 inches long at birth! She was the size of a Pringles potato chip can!  The doctors did not think she would live and at that time, the Baptist Mission did not have an incubators.

I could not just let her die and I asked the father if I could try to help and he agreed.  We wrapped her in a towel and took her to our home.  We did not know what to do but knew that we had to do something!  She was so alert and bright and she was fighting to live!

We named her Angel Noel and John being a Mr. Fix It type of person, constructed an incubator out of a cardboard box, water bottle, and a light bulb.  This kept her warm and a eye dropper kept her fed!

Angel was the first baby at GLA.  God started this mission to the premature and forgotten babies in Haiti on Christmas Day.  Today, there are hospitals with NICU’s in Haiti when back in 1994 the only NICU was at General Hospital in Port-au-Prince and the equipment there only worked sometimes!  We still get premature babies referred to us for local hospitals and clinics.

I am so grateful to God for directing our lives in this way.  The children who have passed through the doors of GLA through the last 20 years have changed me and opened my eyes to the forgotten children in Third World Countries.

This mission has never really been about John and I and what we have done, but about God and what He has done!  We are the hands that God needed but we need all of you so that GLA can continue to care for the children.

Thank YOU all for caring and sharing with the children at GLA.  Would you consider giving a donation in honor of GLA’s 20th Anniversary?  Help us to care for the children.  Without you, we truly cannot help the children and there are so many that need a safe and healthy place to live.

John and I want to thank everyone for supporting GLA throughout the years.  We wish you a very Merry Christmas Holiday and blessings for the New Year!
