Christmas Giving Catalog
At GLA our mission is to provide exceptional care and a safe haven to the smallest, sickest, and most vulnerable children of Haiti. We are so grateful that we can be here for those who need us and change the outcome of their lives. It is YOU who makes this possible. If you’ve been a part of the GLA family for years we want to say THANK you for your commitment and dedication. If you’re new to our story and thinking about partnering with us now or in the future we want to say WELCOME! There is much to be done, and we are excited to have you team up with us! We know there are many organizations out there doing wonderful things, but when you make your end of your giving this 2020 would you please consider giving a gift to GLA that will change the life of a child and their family in the year to come?

School & Education
We have four certified teachers, who together bring 32 years of experience to GLA’s on site classrooms. The teachers work with our kids at a ratio of no more than 1 to 5. They understand their individual learning levels, and move them along at a pace that challenges them but does not frustrate or make them feel incapable.
For a gift of $50 you can buy school books and supplies for one of the GLA kids for a year.
For a gift of $90 you can provide a “field trip” or “fun day” for the kids in all classes.

“Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” John Trainer
Early in 2020 you, our GLA friends and family, graciously purchased a new generator and fuel system for us. This generator has been our saving grace throughout the rest of the year and we rely on it for consistent power. It provides stable voltage at the appropriate level. It pumps water from underground cisterns into our gravity-fed plumbing system. It powers the washing machines and keeps the freezers frozen and the security lights blazing. It powers the NICU and handles all of the isolates and oxygens concentrators with ease. We do not take this gift of electricity for granted! We perform regular preventative maintenance on the generator in an effort to keep it running well for years to come.
For a gift of $39 you can provide fuel to power GLA for 24 hours.
For a gift of $165 you can provide 1 routine service to the generator.
For a gift of $273 you can provide fuel to power GLA for a week.

More women die in pregnancy and childbirth in Haiti than any other country in the Western Hemisphere. Premature infants without their mother have an elevated risk of mortality. - Pan American Health Organization
One in every 20 children in Haiti will die before the age of five. 60 percent of those will die before the age of 1, many of them having been born premature. In fact, 1 in every 8 infants in Haiti is born premature. GLA operates one of only a few NICUs in Haiti with a population of nearly 11 million. We are referred and admit premature infants from multiple hospitals throughout the greater Port Au Prince area. We provide free health care to families who would not be able to afford the high cost of specialized medical services.
For a gift of $100 you can provide 24-7 nursing care to 1 NICU baby for a week.
For a gift of $210 you can provide the supplies and medications needed to have on hand for the average premature admission.
For a gift of $4000 you can cover the cost of the NICU medical staff for a month.

"For to us a child is born... he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
In an effort to make sure that the kids, nannies, and all of our other residential staff are safe we have employed a local company to post security agents at our compound around the clock. The knowledge of them being here has stopped any further attempts at invasions and it has given the kids and us all peace of mind to sleep safely each night.
For a gift of $80 you can provide one 24 hour period of security.
For a gift of $560 you can ensure safety to the entire compound for a week.
For a gift of $2420 you can provide everyone at GLA with safety and peace of mind for an entire month

Only 70% of households in Haiti have access to a clean water source. - World Health Alliance International
There are no local water sources, no providers, and no city waterworks up here on the mountain. We collect what rain we can and store it in underground cisterns for daily use, but we rarely have enough rain to supply for all our needs.
If we don’t get enough rain, we have to order water to be trucked in from a well 6 miles down the mountain. The water and delivery charge cost roughly $100 USD a truck. On an average day we will use about 2/3s of a truck.
For a gift of $66 you can provide water for a day.
For a gift of $462 you can provide water for an entire week.
For a gift of $1800 you can provide water for an entire month.

1 in every 20 children in Haiti dies before the age of five. - UNICEF
Most of the infants that come to our gate come because they need specialized care in some way or another whether it be short term and they return home to family or long term and they stay with us more permanently. It’s not uncommon for one of the toddlers to need their tonsils removed, or for a baby to come in that needs cleft palate repair or corrective hernia surgery before it becomes life-threatening.
Many of the kids were severely malnourished during their early developmental months and as a result, need extra help overcoming challenges and progressing. Several of our kids also have lifelong challenges that require regular physical therapy.
For a gift of $80 you can provide physical therapy to a child with challenges for a month.
For a gift of $150 you can provide a full blood panel examination.
For a gift of $1100 you can provide cleft lip and cleft palate repair to an infant.
