I have heard that some of our donors are wondering why I asked for help recently when we just received a large donation to help build the baby house at Fort Jacques. Why can’t we use some of those funds to help with our financial needs?
The reason is that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the USA forbids us to use designated funds for a project other than what the donor has specified when the funds are sent to GLA. This regulation protects the funds given from being used for other purposes and then when it’s time for building, we don’t have the funds to move forward.
But this makes it difficult when we really need operational funds. We need to buy food, diapers, fuel for the generators, pay for water, baby formula, pay for lab work, etc.
We are struggling to make payroll, buy food, fuel, baby essentials, and all of the other things we need to keep GLA running. Any spending even for food items must go through our accountant here in Haiti before it can be purchased. We have laid some staff off since we have fewer children right now and plan to lay more off over the next few weeks. We have sent children home who were here for assistance as soon as they were able to leave with their birth families who we might have kept a few more weeks before.
We need your donations to the general funds or one of the other areas that is available to choose from on our donation page. Please can you give $10 today to help the children? And if you can’t give right now, would you please commit to praying for GLA and the children that God will provide for all of our needs?
