Dearest GLA Family, Friends, and Support Partners,
As many of you know John and Dixie retired from GLA in December of 2019 and relocated to their home in Colorado Springs, CO the following week.
Since that time, I have been honored and privileged to have temporarily rejoined the GLA team in Haiti as interim executive director alongside the in-country director Ernst Beaublanc, and the Child and Families Services Program director Magaly Francois. I say “rejoined” because GLA was my passion, my life’s work, my home, and my family for 14 years. I parted ways with the ministry in 2016 for a number of reasons and partnered with several other organizations in Haiti that were doing incredible things to further maternal health, fight child slavery, and provide relief to at risk youth, never anticipating that a day would come when I would use my experience with those organizations to help GLA back on a better path. It is a joy to be back with Ernst and Magaly again pursuing the answers to today’s hard questions and working towards change.
“Do something today that changes the future of tomorrow.”
Since its beginning GLA has been ever-evolving, different from one year to the next as the organization adapted to meet the needs of the infants and families it served. Though John and Dixie’s departure is the biggest change GLA has ever been through it is not the biggest challenge we have ever faced. Thankfully the ministry is not defined by any one person or people. Many key individuals have served with GLA over the years in various capacities, coming and going bringing with them their strengths and investing their time, energy, and Godly input in a lasting way. Other’s like Marielle, Vierge, Marie Josee, and Jocelyne have selflessly given close to 20 years of their lives day in and day out to make GLA a safe haven for those who seek refuge here.
GLA was founded in God’s name to bring hope and healing to families in Haiti. In His name it will continue. We know now more than we ever knew before. Equipped with the lessons we learned and the shared knowledge that others have imparted, we are excited to intentionally move forward into a better tomorrow. We are especially excited to increase our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit capacity and further develop our mother-infant education and support systems.
“Let all that you do be done in love.” - 1 Corinthians 16:14
GLA has only be able to positively impact the lives that it has because of you. We are so grateful that through it all you are still here standing with us and the future generation of Haiti.
All of us here are GLA are looking forward with excitement and anticipation to what we can continue to accomplish together with your faithful and so appreciated support!
