2022 Faith Goals
Some sources suggest the tradition of “New Year’s Resolutions” is over 4000 years old. Many of us continue this tradition each year, taking an opportunity to establish personal goals. These goals serve to motivate and challenge us to improve our lives. Whether you are a successful resolution maker or you’ve come up short by the end of January, there is an enjoyment in dreaming about goals, creating a target, and (hopefully) implementing a plan to achieve those dreams. With that said, GLA is committing to a few goals for 2022:
1. Grand opening of our new NICU facility
2. 250 new GLA guardians (Child Sponsors)
3. Develop 20 new church partnerships
Fix The Fort Update
Thank you to all those who have donated to Fix-the-Fort in September 2021. Your donations have allowed us to begin our work on relocating the NICU, repair plumbing issues and stabilizing the electric grid. Be sure to follow along with us as we make improvements and meet our goals in 2022 on social media…
Why Sponsor A Child - GLA Guardians
GLA Guardians (monthly supporters) provide the sustainability we need to carry out our mission; enabling GLA to provide safety, security and shelter to each child in our care. These children come to us with many healthcare needs, traumatic pasts and numerous developmental concerns. By becoming a GLA Guardian, you are helping to change the life of a child in GLA’s care. Sign up to become a Guardian today by clicking the button below.
What does your support provide as a Guardian?
Funds received from Guardians are used to directly provide multiple services to each child. Your monthly contributions insure they have nutritious food, clean water and quality clothing. In addition to these basic needs, your donations also give the children a safe place to run and play as well as receive a Christ-centered education. Our staff are available 24/7 and they care for these children as if they were their very own. Support staff includes nannies, nurses, teachers, administrative coordinators, drivers to purchase food and supplies, maintenance staff and security forces.
Introducing Trey Starnes: Executive Director One of our ongoing goals for the Board of Directors at GLA is to continue to provide proper leadership, vision, and oversight to ensure all the children who call GLA home receive the best care possible. We are dedicated to transparency and ensuring all donations are spent responsibly. We are so grateful for your continued partnership with us and we praise God for His continued provision for GLA.
Last August, the Board of Directors introduced Stephen Higgins as our new Executive Director. Board members spent months in the rigorous search and interview process. We believed that Stephen was the best choice to fill this executive leadership role. Our choice was based on many conversations, interviews, and background checks. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent to the board of directors and the senior leadership staff on the ground in Haiti that Stephen was not well-suited for the position for which he was hired. Once again, GLA found itself in a difficult position, requiring leadership. God was not surprised by these developments. He was one step ahead of us, bringing clarification and a specific calling to one of our board members to step into the role of Executive Director starting on November 1st. Our God is so good to know our needs and prepares a path before we even ask!
The Board of Directors would like to publicly welcome Trey Starnes, as our new Executive Director for GLA. Trey had been earnestly praying and seeking God’s will about this position over the past 9 months. When the time came to ask Stephen to leave, Trey knew he was called to step down from the Board and into this new role. The Board’s vote was unanimous after a two-step interview process and reference check. Trey has 13 years of ministry experience. For the last 8 years, he served at NewLife Church outside of Charlotte, NC; first as Student Pastor and then taking on the role of Missions and Outreach Pastor. NewLife has been involved in Haiti missions since 2016 and began a partnership with GLA in 2018. Trey led several mission trips down to GLA, bringing skilled construction teams to help with ongoing projects. His heart and passion are for the people of Haiti, bringing vision and leadership to our GLA team, and caring for the most vulnerable. The Board of Directors is so grateful for his commitment to this new role and we look forward to what 2022 has in store. Please continue to lift Trey and the entire GLA team in prayer as we faithfully look to God for His plan and provision in this next year.
