The Untold Inflationary Story of Laundry Detergent
You can’t turn on the news without hearing about the increasing cost of everything from groceries to gas. But the reality is, we don’t need the news anchors to tell us about inflation. Don’t we already know it and feel it every time we visit the pump or enter the grocery store? It’s painful to fill up at the pump or buy groceries. Well, that feeling is compounded in Haiti. First, getting fuel is extremely difficult, nearly impossible. So, to say the supply is limited would be an understatement. With that limited supply comes an increase in cost, astronomical in fact. The cost of fuel has increased 106 percent.
Put aside the skyrocketing costs of fuel for a moment, and let’s just talk about the basics: i.e., food, supplies, and of course, laundry detergent. Yes, laundry detergent. As you can well imagine, at GLA, we go through a lot of detergent. With a campus of 40+ kids, we do a lot of laundry. Sometimes it seems like, well, most of the time, it seems like it never ends. To put some numbers around the Laundry Detergent Dilemma, we spent $100 in February for that pricey liquid. Fast forward a few months, and we are now spending $215.00 per month. This means it has increased 115 percent in just a few short months. It’s gotten quite expensive to keep our GLA family clean.
Please be an "Inflation Buster"
That’s just one simple example about the rising costs due to inflation. Now multiply that by food, cleaning supplies, and fuel, and you start seeing the situation GLA finds itself in, an inflation nightmare. We are asking our friends and supporters to be an “inflation buster.” Our project for the summer is to beat down inflation by asking for additional support. You can commit to “buying:”
One month of Laundry Detergent = $215.00
One week of groceries = $2,000.00
One month of operation for One House = $5,000.00
We know that times are difficult for everyone. We are very mindful of the situation here at home. Just know, we are working hard to minimize our costs and stretch our budget to the max. However, sometimes things are beyond our control. We ask that you prayerfully consider being an “inflation buster” for our kids.
To close out our Laundry Detergent Dilemma, what we have already spent on laundry detergent for the year, would have carried us through this entire year. We are in a difficult and “dirty” situation…If you would like to help us bust out inflation at GLA, please click here: https://donate-usa.keela.co/project-inflation-buster
