The Easter Story at GLA

“1 Peter 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead"

As we enter Holy week, we are reminded of the death of our Savior and His resurrection. I can’t help reflecting on the resurrection story and how it compares to the children of GLA. On Good Friday, we remember the death of our Savior. The suffering He endured. Tragic and heartbreaking to see a son suffer and die. In the movie, The Passion of the Christ, a viewer goes through Mary’s emotions as she saw her son, the Savior of the World, tortured and crucified. It is painful for anyone to watch. Before the children come to GLA, they aren’t crucified, but they do suffer. They suffer from the lack of necessities – food, clothing, safety and security. How heartbreaking for a mother to see their child hungry. Unimaginable for most of us. But they also suffer from the loss of love, peace, and an upbringing filled with laughter and joy. As dark and difficult as this reality is, “joy” does come in the morning. As our Lord rose on the third day and ascended into heaven to be with his heavenly father, we at GLA also see joy as our children come through our doors.

...weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. – Psalm 30:5

The joy that is felt to be welcomed and loved into an environment that not only provides the basic needs of infants and children, but also the love that all children need. We see the joy when children don’t have to worry about being hungry and having a safe place to sleep. We see the joy when kids can just be kids. During this Holy week, we ask that you pray for our ministry. Pray that the children that come through our gates will feel the love of Christ as a warm blanket comforts a baby. Pray these precious children will see God’s love shine through the staff, and they will be open to receive the love so freely given. We know we have a limited time to provide for these children and show the love of Christ. Our prayer is that GLA will be their “haven” during their stay with us.

We see the resurrection story each and every day at GLA. We see the suffering and the joy, and we want to say thank you to those supporters that allow us to do our work. We wish all of our friends, and supporters, the love and joy of this Easter season. If you are interested in learning more about GLA please go to our website: https://www.glahaiti.org/
